An interesting observation has been circulating: the computer mouse cursor has not fundamentally changed in 50 years. Despite decades of advances in display technology, input devices, and operating systems, the basic pointer arrow remains essentially the same as it was in the 1970s.

This says something about how some design decisions become so deeply embedded that they persist even when better alternatives exist. The cursor works, it is universally understood, and nobody thinks to challenge it. The same phenomenon happens in software design, where legacy patterns persist out of familiarity rather than optimality.

The observation serves as a reminder to question assumptions, even the ones so basic that they have become invisible.
